NAML Announces 2023 Leadership Team

The National Association of Muslim Lawyers (NAML), the largest association of Muslim attorneys, legal professionals and law students in the United States, today introduced and congratulated its new leaders for the 2023 calendar year.

NAML's 2023 leadership team includes President Edward Ahmed Mitchell, President-Elect Rahmah Abdulaleem, Vice President Baraa Khaf, Secretary Nadia Ahmed and Treasurer Shariyf Muhammad. NAML's board includes representatives of 14 Muslim Bar Associations in states across the nation.

President Mitchell, who previously served as President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary of NAML, is the National Deputy Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). President-Elect Abdulaleem, who previously served as Vice President of NAML, is the executive director of KARAMAH: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights. Vice President Kahf, a former NAML board member, is a partner at Knobbe Martens. Treasurer Muhammad, who is returning in his role, serves as the Director of Health, Law & Policy at the Georgia Department of Human Services. Secretary Ahmed, who is also returning to her role, serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada.

In a statement, NAML President Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

"On behalf of NAML's new leadership team, I thank all of our members for their support and trust as we strive to make more progress for the Muslim legal community. I also thank and commend our outgoing board members and leaders for their important contributions.

"In recent years, the Muslim American legal community has made amazing strides: growing exponentially, breaking barriers in every field of law, establishing important legal precedents, and even arguing cases before the Supreme Court, among many other achievements. Alhamdulillah.

"Our top priority in the coming year is to build on this progress. We will, God willing, strengthen, expand and further institutionalize NAML so that this organization can help even more Muslim legal professionals network with each other, mentor each other, learn from each other and positively impact society."

NAML is the largest professional networking organization for Muslim lawyers, judges, law students, and legal professionals in the United States.
