NAML and NMLSA Launch “Helpers” Project for Law Students, New Lawyers Targeted for Supporting Palestinian Rights

(WASHINGTON, DC - 11/27/2023) The National Association of Muslim Lawyers (NAML) and the National Muslim Law Student Association (NMLSA) today announced the official start of a project to support law students and new lawyers who have faced termination, job offer withdrawals, discrimination, or workplace mistreatment as a result of their identity or their expressions of support for Palestinian human rights.

In a statement, the National Association of Muslim Lawyers said:

“We thank the lawyers and law students who have signed up for the NAML-NMLSA Helpers project, which will ensure that promising attorneys can continue to pursue their careers and make positive change despite recent attempts to silence and punish them. Every law student and lawyer in our nation should be able to express their personal support for the human rights of all people, including Palestinians, without facing the threat of censorship, doxxing, termination or workplace discrimination. We invite established lawyers to continue to join the NAML-NMLSA Helpers project and we encourage impacted law students and new lawyers to continue doing so as well.”

The NAML-NMLSA Helpers Project aims to connect law students and new lawyers who have faced adverse impacts on their careers over the past six weeks with experienced senior attorneys for guidance, assistance and opportunities. Over 60 attorneys and law students have already signed up for the program. The project was conceived by NAML founder, Professor Asifa Quraishi-Landes, who is coordinating the program on behalf of NAML.

Impacted law students and lawyers, as well as those willing to offer support, are encouraged to fill out the respective forms linked below. The process involves matching individuals seeking assistance with lawyers ready to provide guidance.
