Directory Bio: Sakib Khan advises project owners, general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, sureties and consultants on construction-related legal matters. With a background in civil engineering and construction management, Attorney Khan is able to get up-to-speed on both the technical and legal issues of a case quickly, and then formulate an assessment and resolution strategy. He is able to review highly technical reports, advise and direct experts consulting on a case, and apply practical knowledge to the interpretation and application of codes, industry standards and regulations. Attorney Khan’s depth and real-world understanding of building and construction are invaluable assets to his clients. Attorney Khan’s constant focus is developing and executing a strategy to achieve his client’s goals for a matter as efficiently as possible. He strives to resolve disputes by agreement except in those limited circumstances where the parties cannot reach an agreement even after negotiation or mediation. In those cases, Attorney Khan effectively and persuasively presents his clients’ causes to the court or arbitrator to see that justice is done. A substantial portion of Attorney Khan’s practice is focused on pre-litigation, dispute avoidance and risk management counseling, including construction contract drafting and negotiation and developing strategies for project owners and construction industry clients to address and resolve contract claims for additional time and compensation during the course of the project and without external intervention by legal counsel, much less appearance in court or arbitration. Attorney Khan evaluates the legal merits of potential construction claims and their potential defenses and advises clients on how best to present or resolve potential disputes in the ordinary course. Attorney Khan also represents businesses in civil litigation, including representing mortgage lenders in title disputes, professional services firms in disputes concerning unfair and deceptive competitive practices and small and medium size business owners or investors in intra-business entity disputes.
